Room 8

Room 8

Thrown to rot in a narrow and gloomy cell of a hideous Soviet prison, a weary new inmate struggles to come to terms with the new reality. Within the grey cage, an unwelcoming fellow convict cautions the newcomer not to touch the intriguingly mysterious red wooden box which rests on the lower bunk, moreover, not even think of opening it. Why is there so much secrecy about the contents of the box? Could there be hiding the means to his escape?

Now here’s a challenge worthy of “Dr. Who” or any others expert in the vagaries of the space-time continuum. A prisoner (Tom Cullen) is shown to his sparsely furnished cell where he encounters his cell mate (Michael Gould) reading at the desk. Sitting on the lower of their bunk beds, he notices a red box and asks what is in it. He is advised to leave well alone, but he’s the curious type and so is flabbergasted by the contents. Might this box provide him with a means of escape? The acting is really neither here nor there, but there premise and the conclusion are cleverly presented and boy, what a solution this could offer to jail overcrowding. Well worth five minutes.
