In Quilombo de Damásio - as in practically the entire state of Maranhão - the“ Portuguese dance ”game is part of the extensive June festivities. But when we come across this game in a “land of black” (as this space has been defined by its residents, which goes beyond geography) the strangeness comes to the fore.
