Duran Duran emerged from Birmingham and became a worldwide phenomenon in the 1980s. Beginning as a New Romantic act with make-up and flamboyant styling, they quickly turned into major teen idols. Led by Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, and John Taylor, the band topped charts on both sides of the Atlantic with hits such as Rio, Save a Prayer, and Wild Boys.
They helped define the MTV era with innovative videos, from the provocative Girls on Film to the adventure-themed Hungry Like the Wolf. At their peak, they rivalled the Beatles’ impact in the US and outsold contemporaries like Spandau Ballet and Wham!. After selling around 60 million records, Le Bon and Rhodes later toured the US with the Pop Trash project. The documentary looks back at their meteoric rise, the pressures behind the glamour, and the effects of fame on working-class musicians, featuring interviews with band members and figures including Debbie Harry, Yasmin Le Bon, Nile Rodgers, and Lou Reed.
