When Mike Upchat moves to California, he raffles his names and identities, effects, personality, and to some extent his reputation, to ... well, Mike Upchat. With a little help from a casual acquaintance, Mike polishes off his act - if not a plate of spaghetti bolognese.

After being moved on by the railway police and thrown out of Polly's Soho club, Mike delivers a 'Chinese' banquet to a flat on Park Lane. He's soon caught up in a male modelling fiasco.

When Maggie forgets Polly's keys, Mike enlists a tour bus full of Japanese tourists to help them get into the club in a timely fashion.

Maggie's homesick; she misses Birmingham, and her mum.

After meeting a particularly well-spoken young lady who is far more comfortable with the more earthy side of life, Mike Upchat - aka the Pearly Prince of Poplar - finds himself playing a sort of reverse Professor Higgins...

As ever, a girl has caught Mike's attention. With a bit of 'help' from Polly and Maggie, he's almost engaged, married, divorced, and father to an expanding group of children.

As a flock of Mike Upchats arrive at Polly's, it seems that the previous Michael had quite the enterprise going on with his raffles. Maggie has the perfect solution: the first of the bunch to arrive back with a woman on his arm will have exclusive right to the name.
