Across a gorgeous, sun-drenched summer holiday more than forty children of 4 and 5 years old converge on a brand new inner-city school that is rigged with cameras and wired for sound. This year a new raft of specially designed games will test everything from the children’s ability to handle a one day old chick, to their willingness to take risks, to seeing how well they can resist a 5-tier chocolate fountain. And this time, as well as giving insight into the children’s behaviour, our scientists -- Professor Paul Howard-Jones, Dr Sam Wass, Dr Elizabeth Kilbey and Dr Alison Pike -- also consider what may be going on inside their brains.
01. 4 Year Olds (1)
A group of four-year-olds meet for the first time and forge new friendships. Surprise visitors arrive - 10 eggs inside an incubator. The children watch in excitement as they hatch during the week.
02. 4 Year Olds (2)
During a building task, new girl Milana's play style threatens to alienate her from the group. A temptation task gives new boy Kahana a chance to shine. And Layton sets his sights on another girl.
03. 5 Year Olds (1)
Ten new five-year-olds arrive at the play centre. Romance blossoms between confident Jude and Ellie. Grown-up Ellie-Mae takes Daisy, who has cerebral palsy, under her wing.
04. 5 Year Olds (2)
Sensitive Nat vies for the attention of confident new girl Calla. Football ace Jet offers words of wisdom to her teammates and shows how winning can be fun as the children learn about competitiveness.
