When a dog dies of poisoning, the two caretakers, trying to avoid the wrath of its owners, convince the local priest and a bishop to give the dead animal a Christian burial, promising them a share of a supposed dog's will.

João Grilo try to deceive a rich man into believing that Chicó is a worthy (and, mostly, wealthy) man for his daughter.

João Grilo deceive two men to fight each other, making Chicó look like a brave man in-between the quarrel.

João Grilo dies and has to use all his wit to avoid going to Hell.
